PORTRAIT BY JASON RODGERS "I'm looking forward to the group show 'Creature' at L.A.'s Broad museum this November, which brings together 50 artists from the collection and their approaches to figuration and representations of the self. The range of people is incredible, from George Condo and Basquiat to Ellen Gallagher and Warhol. Plus, Thomas Houseago's immense bronze sculpture Giant Figure (Cyclops) will be displayed for the first time in the U.S. A lot of these artists mainly work in abstracts, so their take on the natural form will be interesting." "For the very first time, Berlin's Museum Berggruen will be displaying contemporary art in 'George Condo: Confrontation,' a retrospective that juxtaposes the artist's work from the '80s through today with masterpieces from the museum's collection by Giacometti, Matisse and others. The show will offer a fascinating contrast between the historical and the contemporary, providing a different perspective on Condo's often comical pieces, some of which will be exhibited for the first time. Through March 12." the season in art "For 30 years, artist Ingrid Donat has been creating sculptural design pieces that are collected by the likes of Tom Ford, Brad Pitt and Peter Marino (with whom she often collaborates). Reflecting influences from organic forms of Art Deco to tribal art, her work is being shown at New York's Carpenters Workshop Gallery through December 17. Coinciding with the exhibition is a new monograph covering her entire career, from her earliest sculptures to her most recent series." "Paris' Centre Pompidou is mounting a major Cy Twombly retrospective opening November 30, featuring 140 paintings, sculptures and drawings on loan from public and private collections throughout the world. This is the only exhibition of the show, which covers his entire career, from Abstract Expressionism to Conceptualism. The Pompidou is an amazing space, and some of Twombly's iconic works will be shown in France for the first time." Cy Twombly's Coronation of Sesostris, 2000 "The new work of Flavie Audi, a young Lebanese-French artist living in London, will be shown at the city's Tristan Hoare gallery beginning November 17. Her primary medium is glass, and 'Cell-estial' investigates the material's natural form as well as its technological significance in screens. Along with her glass sculptures, the exhibition will incorporate photographs that illustrate her process. This is one of her first solo shows, so it's an exciting moment in her career."
