USS Hurricane HMCS Ville de Quebec USS DeWert U.S., Canadian ships here this month for Navy Week, Air & Water Show NAVY WEEK Aug. 6-13 will bring ships from the U.S. Navy, Canadian Navy and U.S. Coast Guard to Milwaukee as part of the Navy's extensive com- memoration of the Bicentennial of the War of 1812. In addition to greatly expanding Navy Week activi- ties, the four ships will significantly add to the water portion of Milwaukee's Air & Water Show Aug. 11-12. Milwaukee is one of only 15 U.S. cities chosen by the Navy for the special Navy Week/Bicentennial celebration this year. "The Navy operates on the water, over the water and under the water and we'll be bringing assets that showcase these capabilities to the Milwaukee community," said U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Gregory M. Nosal, commander of Carrier Strike Group Two. "As America's away team, your Navy is 44 agile, flexible, deployed around the world and uniquely positioned to defend our nation's inter- ests every day." The ships arriving here Aug. 8 are the Navy's coastal patrol ship USS Hurricane, to be docked at Discovery World Museum, and the frigate USS DeWert, the Coast Guard cutter Neah Bay and the Canadian frigate HMCS Ville de Quebec, to be docked at the Port of Milwaukee's liquid cargo pier on Jones Island. Free public tours are scheduled from noon-7 p.m. Aug. 9-12, with the exception of Aug. 10 when DeWert tours will be available only from noon-3 p.m. The liquid cargo pier at the Port of Milwaukee is reached from the exit to the port at the south end of the Hoan Bridge. Free parking will be available at the pier.
