Celebrating our 33rd year of publication • www.worldfencenews com • January 2017 WORLD FENCE NEWS The job: 121 telephone entry units in 121 different buildings. It sounds daunting on its own, right? Now con- sider that each building has 15–25 users that each need their own cre- dentials; each building has its own telephone lines; and each unit needs to be able to be tracked remotely. Where do you start if you have to bid this? What product would you use? What software would work? Would you be able to get all of these units on one program? This challenge faced Shanna Gray, owner of Gate Logic Securi- ty (GLS) in Annandale, Va. A large apartment complex in Alexandria, Va. (a Washington, D.C. suburb) had contacted GLS with the need to re- place an aging access control system that no longer was meeting the needs of residents and management. Gray contacted Controlled Products Sys- tems Group (CPSG) in Beltsville, Md. with the site specification. She wanted CPSG's assistance in finding the right product to meet all the requirements, but she also wanted a manufacturer that would be active in working with CPSG and GLS after the sale. CPSG went to the drawing board, examining different product capa- bilities as well as product softwares, availabilities and costs. Its research quickly led to the new- ly redesigned LiftMaster EL2000SS – a high capacity model with two Wiegand inputs that could handle the user count and could be remotely programmed through its menu-driven Versa XS 4.0 software. But before CPSG presented its suggestion to Gray and Gate Logic Security, CPSG wanted to directly involve LiftMaster, a company they said they had found to be reliable and versatile and could be counted on for after-sale support. By the end of its call to LiftMaster, the manufacturer already had a demo en route to GLS so that they could be as educated as possible while presenting the bid. The company's lead access con- trol technical support manager, Glenn Fisher, was put on call to come out at a moment's notice, and he organized a special, individualized training session on the EL2000SS for GLS at CPSG's location in Beltsville, just northeast of Washington, D.C. A few weeks after the meeting, the CPSG office received an enthusiastic phone call from Gray, who informed the company that it won the bid. Working in tandem, LiftMaster and CPSG trained GLS on the soft- ware and walked through the site so everyone understood its scope. Fisher was on hand for the proj- ect's first three days and helped install the first 11 units, ensuring a smooth process. The D.C. location also had in stock all components of the EL2000SS in the event of a warranty claim or un- expected site issue. (As of press time, GLS had finished installing all 121 EL2000SS systems and was ready to turn the site over to the property man- agement company.) Gray explained her decision to go with CPSG and LiftMaster on this site: "It was the knowledge that the CPSG [Beltsville] office brings in terms of product and competitiveness, as well as the relationship that we have." "This is something that CPSG does across the board: We treat every customer, every quote and every order with the utmost importance," stated Ken Sittman, CPSG Northeast Sales/ Operations Manager. • Gate Logic Security is an elite, full-service company specializing in gates, gate automation, and access controls.
