They are not standards, but prac- tices that have been demonstrated to show superior results. BSPs are prepared by a consensus of groundwater profession- als from around the country. NGWA and AVANTI Sign Joint MOU NGWA signed a memorandum of understanding on Octo- ber 17 with Avanti System AB (AVANTI), an organization of Swedish water well construction firms, to promote and encourage greater understanding and education of the pro- fessional, scientific, and technical aspects of groundwater supply, management, protection, and remediation. AVANTI's parent organization is Sveriges Avanti-Borrare Förening. AVANTI, founded in 1973 and based in Stockholm, shares common concerns with NGWA about groundwater supply, management, protection, and remediation. With these common concerns at the forefront, NGWA and AVANTI have entered into agreement to: • Promote cooperation among groundwater service and product providers to help each other address problems of groundwater supply, management, protection, and remediation • Encourage this understanding and education through special publications, journals (periodicals), websites, seminars, workshops, and conferences • Expand their areas of influence globally and wish to do so in a cooperative manner, including collaborating through meetings, professional designations, and market- ing of the other organization's events. NGWA CEO Kevin McCray, CAE, was invited to speak at IGSHPA Sweden's first International Ground Source Heat Pump Convention in September in Stockholm. The focus of McCray's presentation was to help contractors become better at their job and included sharing NGWA ground source heat pump resources. NGWA has a relationship with AVANTI dating back to 1986. The Groundwater NGWA Association Certification exams administered by the National Ground Water Association in October 2016, with 5 of those passing. Also administered were 21 licensing exams, with 10 passing. New members NGWA registered in October 2016. The total consisted of 98 contractors, 61 scientists and engineers, 14 students, 12 government or academic professionals, 8 associates, 7 manufacturers, 7 suppliers, 1 manufacturer representative, and 1 public groundwater systems professional.
