In the news: Heaven Hill's Master Distiller Emeritus Parker Beam passed away on Jan. 8 after a long and valiant battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). Beam had joined the company in 1960 and was appointed Master Distiller in 1975, succeeding his father, Earl Beam. PRODUCTS Ladismith Cape Brandy from Ladismith, South Africa, is an eight-year-old, wood-matured, 100% pot still brandy. It pays homage to Lady Juana, the Spanish-born spouse of Sir Harry Smith, one-time gov- ernor general of the Cape Province. Ladismith Cape Brandy has nutty aromas, notes of jasmine, nuts and vanilla on the palate, the company says, followed by a lingering aftertaste and fragrant cinnamon and sun- dried apple. The suggested retail price is $39.99 per 750-ml. bottle. Australian winery 19 Crimes has added two shiraz blend wines to its lineup: The Banished Dark Red (suggested retail price: $11.99 per 750-ml. bottle) and The Warden (SRP: $24.99 per 750-ml. bottle). The Banished has notes of dark chocolate and vanilla aromatics, the company says, with dark forest fruits and notes of cloves and cinnamon spice. The Warden offers notes of dark cherry, blackberry, boysenberry, chocolate, mocha and vanilla bean. Boutique Scotch producer The Lost Distillery Co. has launched three new whiskies in the U.S. market. The new blended malt whiskies are: Benachie, Towiemore, and Lossit. The Lost Distillery Co. "brings back forgotten Scotch whiskies back to life with a modern interpretation," the company says. The suggested retail price is $43 per 750-ml. bottle. Smirnoff has launched a spiked sparking seltzer line available in three flavors: or- ange mango, cranberry lime and watermelon. Smirnoff Spiked Sparkling Seltzer is 90 calories and 4.5% ABV. No artificial sweeteners are used, and the product is infused with natural sweeteners and crafted to remove gluten, the company says. The seltzers come in 12-oz. slimline cans, 6-packs or 12-pack mixes. The suggested retail price is $8.99 for a 12-pack. A new winter seasonal from SweetWater Brewing Co., Squeeze Box IPA with grapefruit has five tropical hop additions and dosed with a "shot of winter's favorite citrus, grapefruit," the company reports. Squeeze Box IPA with grapefruit is 6.1% ABV with 45 IBUs. The suggested retail price is $6 per 6-pack. Rhône Valley brand Les Dauphins has announced two new wines: the Organic Côtes du Rhône Villages Rouge 2015 (suggested retail price: $14.99 per 750-ml. bottle) and a Côtes du Rhône Villages Puyméras Rouge 2014 (SRP: $17.99). Les Dauphins Organic Côtes du Rhône Village Rouge 2015 is grenache (60%), syrah (30%), mouvèdre (5%) and carignan (5%). Les Dauphins Côtes du Rhône Villages Puyméras Rouge 2014 is grenache (70%), syrah (20%) and carignan (10%).
