W e hear all the time how read- ers love Good Fruit Grower covers, which showcase the gorgeous scenery of our industry. A few readers don't grow fruit but subscribe anyway just to collect covers. We know that feeling. You can find our covers tacked on walls at grower offices, in shops and in packing houses from our home in Yakima, Washington, to Michigan and Pennsylvania and New York, even beyond to the 50 countries where our magazine is delivered. Our January 15 cover featured another great shot by photographer Paloma Ayala, who captured an old tractor set against the spectacular scenery we enjoy in Central Washington. In her caption for us, Ayala recalled she had shot the tractor in the Methow Valley, which was news to reader Chuck Podlich who says that tractor is part of his "museum" of old machinery at Orondo Cider Works along the Columbia River between Wenatchee and Chelan. That's not the Methow Valley, said Podlich. He sent us his own photo as proof of the location. Podlich knows the region. He grew apples there for 38 years. He can tell you all about the scenery, including Goosetail Rock, which rises spectacularly behind the tractor in Ayala's photo. He started Orondo Cider Works in 2003, enjoyed his success, and sold it all last year and retired. His daughter Hannah manages the place for the new owner, Auvil Fruit. We now stand corrected about the location of that tractor. Thanks, Chuck. And from a staff member who once lived in Wenatchee, we can further report that Orondo Cider Works not only serves delicious cider, but also makes world-class doughnuts, using a recipe inspired by Podlich's grandmother. We love those food traditions. So look to see us soon headed up Highway 97 for a stop at Orondo Cider Works for reasons that should be self-evident.
