The $6.6 billion program is intended to substan- tially reduce delays in all weather con- ditions and increase capacity at the airfield. The units, which ranged in size from 24' x 10' + razor ribbon to 40' wide, are powered by DoorKing 1 h.p. 9000 Se- ries operators. There are ve- hicle loops for entry and egress, and a single 3-but- ton control station. The en- tire system is UL325 compliant and approved by the Federal Aviation Ad- ministration, Samuelson added. The gates had to be in- stalled in order that federal guard post #12 could be mare. We have confidence that we can eliminate future gate problems by in- stalling ZipTracks only," he said. "In my 30 plus years in the industry I have found that the ZipTrack gates always work. Only time will tell, but I have a good feeling about O'Hare standardiz- ing the ZipTracks, for that very rea- son." So far, so good. However: "The job was seven months late because of issues with design, under- ground conditions, environmental con- cerns and weather," commented Samuelson. "We were the last trade on the site, and we needed 10 days to complete our part. But were allowed only five! It still got finished because our people really gave a great effort to get it done. "Because of politics, we could not fail!" he added, ominously. But all's well that ends well. "After all the systems were up and running, the OMP personnel were very impressed that everything worked per- fectly," said Samuelson. "O'Hare is a big place with many gates. Over the years many different gate types, sizes, shapes and colors from many different manufacturers have been installed, which created a maintenance and replacement night- ornamental aluminum fences. The ZipTrack aluminum cantilever gate is also available in frame only so you can add your own chain link or wood for maximum security. ZipTrack gates are 100% domestic made.
