Since I retired after almost
40 years of managing the
landscape and site operations
for a zoological theme park,
I have had the opportunity
to work as a consultant for
architects, municipalities, and
developers in countries around
the world. In my prior career I
worked with hundreds of spe-
cies of tropical and subtropical
plants, from trees and palms
to epiphytes. I have found that
landscapes around the world
all have similar issues—and
many of the same species.

from locations where I have
