live at home Transformative Tile Just as statement jewelry transforms an outfi t, accent tile can take a room from blah to brilliant. Kelly Lehr, co-owner of Nonn's Design Showplace in Middleton offers tips for using some of their most unique options Touches of Texture Add a three-dimensional accent to a room with natural travertine in a basket weave pattern. Lehr recommends using these durable tiles in an area that doesn't see too much traffi c, as those nooks and crannies can be diffi cult to clean. Shapely Additions For a fresh take on classic tile, try Carrara marble in a tessellating hexagon pattern. This durable material can be used anywhere— from the kitchen backsplash to shower wall or bathroom fl oor— and the timeless look meshes with any style. Material Matters A little goes a long way with these coconut shell mosaic tiles. Whether used as a kitchen back splash or to frame a mirror in a bathroom, their unique tex- ture is sure to draw attention. The natural shells cannot be grouted, so avoid areas in direct contact with water. Unique Combinations Traditionally used horizontally, these glass and slate mosaic sheets take on a modern feel when hung vertically. Use them on walls only—glass tiles are not recommended for use underfoot! 22 BRAVA Magazine October 2012 Photos by Kristin Joiner
