AWORD FROMTHE PRESIDENT From the desk of Stephen Selig, President and COO For almost twelve years, my typical Monday includes a pre- sentation to the New Driver Orien- tation class in our Safety and Training building. My hour presentation follows a two hour Safety pre- sentation by Dean Newell, our VP of Safety and Training. We both talk about Maverick's unwavering com- mitment to Safety and the investments we have made in safety technology, as well as the training these drivers are about to receive. I stress that it takes much more than just a driver, truck and a trailer to deliver every load. We sell a service and it's their job to pick the load up on time and deliver it on timeā€¦ damage free, safely and legally! To our customers, that driver, truck and trailer is the face of Maverick on a daily basis. The service we provide is what you pay us for. But, as you can imagine there are obviously a lot of other components that go into the day to day operations of a large trucking company like ours. What goes on behind the scenes? A little history of the company and how it has evolved may be the best way to explain what makes Maverick tick. First of all, Steve Williams and Larry Leahy started Maverick in 1980 - two guys that basically did it all, leasing Owner Operators and developing a customer base. Steve
