California's clean air laws apply to privately owned diesel trucks that operate on its roads, regardless of origin. The Great West Fleet Executive Conference was held Wednesday and Thursday and offered attendees sessions on complying with regulatory changes, spec'ing equipment to meet operational needs, fi nancing environmentally compliant vehicles and navigating alternative fuel options. The show's Pride & Polish segment concludes today at 11 a.m. at the Chevron Delo Booth (#1622), at which four Best of Show win- ners will be announced, along with a myriad of other awards. Most won the 2010 Great West Pride & Polish Best of Show, Working Bobtail with his 1999 Freightliner Classic, while Sandvik won the Best of Show, Limited-Mileage Bobtail in last year's event with his 1992 Peterbilt 379. Stroup and Greer are building off of more recent successes: Stroup won Best of Show, Limited-Mileage Combo at the 75 Chrome Shop's Pride & Polish in Wildwood, Fla., with his '05 Peterbilt 379 and matching tanker in April. Greer won Best of Show, Working Bobtail at the Charlotte Diesel Super Show in October 2011 in Concord, N.C. Both victories qualifi ed the trucks and their owners for the National Championship judging round in Dallas in August at the Great American Trucking Show. Vernier and McGrath are both showing their trucks for the fi rst time. Vernier's 2013 Peterbilt 389 and McGrath's 1968 Peterbilt 358 are both recently fi nished truck builds and are looking for their fi rst bit of truck show hardware. The four Best of Show winners from the GWTS event will also compete in the National Championship round, where they'll go head to head against the Best of Show trucks from the other four Pride & Polish events. Chance to win Vegas racing experience Glenn Jarrett, brother of NASCAR legend Dale Jarrett, is col- lecting business cards at the Healthy Trucking Association of America. He will put them into a drawing for the chance to drive an actual NASCAR car around the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Jarrett says the free driving adventure doesn't require that the driver follow a pace car. Instead, an instructor rides along and lets you drive as fast as you'd like, offering a more real NASCAR driving experience, Jarrett says.
