DieselSpec_OVD1117_PG.indd 1 10/19/17 8:58 AM A new serialized graphic short story, "Highway Justice," appearing on OverdriveOnline.com since last month, highlights the nationwide problem of human trafficking. The tale involves Jake Brakefield, a trucker with a checkered background who gets caught up in a dangerous FBI operation to bust a human traf- ficking ring. The serial will conclude Feb. 23. Episodes appear Mondays and Thursdays in Overdrive's daily newsletter. They also are archived at OverdriveOnline.com/Justice. Last month, which was designated National Hu- man Trafficking Aware- ness Month, the Combat- ing Human Trafficking on Our Roads Act was signed into law. It designates an official at the U.S. Depart- ment of Transportation to coordinate human traf- ficking prevention efforts across DOT, among other measures. Also in January, NATSO Foundation President Lisa Mullings briefed the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee about the foundation's multipronged anti-human trafficking initiative, which includes a partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. The foundation is part of NATSO Inc., a truck stop trade association. According to Truckers Against Trafficking, truckers have made more than 1,900 calls to the National Human Trafficking Resource Center hotline, 888-373-7888, resulting in the identification of 545 likely traf- ficking cases. "Highway Justice" was written by Carolyn Mason, illustrated by Don Lomax and produced by Max Heine. – Overdrive Staff 'Highway Justice' pair tangles with human trafficking ring Trucker Jake Brakefield and FBI agent Lena Laredo form an unlikely team in "Highway Justice."
