40 | Overdrive | February 2018 Custom Rigs Trucker's antique W9 restoration project Great American Chrome_OVD1114_PG.indd 1 10/13/14 2:12 PM Photos by Todd Dills Trucker Craig Krumpton, who is retired from a career with the state of South Carolina, picked up this 1971 Kenworth W900 in 2008, buying it from a friend's father who had purchased it from the original owners in Louisiana. The unit originally had a 36-inch sleeper and a 335 Cummins, which was replaced in 1985 with a 76-inch Double Eagle sleeper and a 400 Cummins and 15-speed. Krumpton showed the truck at the Southern Classic Truck Show in September in Lincolnton, North Carolina. The truck is somewhat of a retirement project for Krumpton, even though he has a second career now in trucking. The hood features a swan ornament with orange wings.
