Speakers include internationally known tea board officials, experts, (including the managing editor of this magazine), and respected traders from all the major tea producing countries. The forum audience includes buyers, blenders, machine manufacturers, raw materials suppliers, producers, and exporters. A tasting competition for The Golden Leaf India Awards will take place on the show floor with winners announced April 26. A special auction featuring these teas will be hosted later in the year by the United Planters Association of South India (UPASI). New this year is a discussion of DMCC's role as a coffee trading facility, an initiative by Ahmed Bin Sulayem who oversees the trading center's activities in diamonds, gold, tea, and coffee. The event begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 24. An exhibit floor opens daily with representatives from 35 firms includes major sponsors H&S Tee, Glatfelter Gernsbach, and DPH International. Dr. ShashiTharoor Starbucks Achieves Pay Parity In the United States, women on average earn less than men performing the same work. Starbucks announced in March that it has achieved pay parity within its ranks for all ethnicities, races, and gender. In the US the gender pay gap is estimated at 20 cents. This means that women, on average, earn 80 cents on the dollar compared to men. Lucy Helm, chief partner officer at Starbucks said that people "performing similar work" in locations across the United States will now be paid equally." "This accomplishment is the result of 10 years of work and commitment," Helm said. The president of Starbucks Canada pledged to do the same. Starbucks did not state a timeline for ending disparities in other markets, but the statement it released says it will work to do so with "deliberate speed."
