Top Rollouts
Once again its that time of year. Better Roads editors have assembled
their list of the top road products out there for you in 2012. Its the
hardest, most pressure-filled story we write all year. So this is our list;
its unlikely to match yours from top to bottom. But it is a way for us
to acknowledge some of the companies, some of the engineers and
designers who did special thinking and working to bring us outstanding
products to us and our ways of thinking the pick of them in 2012.

Calculators can now help contractors and
agencies work out the potential environmental
impact of a road project before its begun. One
advantage is an increase in options that can
be considered in the planning stages.

APPLICATIONS & INNOVATIONS
The National Asphalt Pavement
Association help us take a look at perpetual pavement. Its traditionally associated with major highways, but this lifeextending design also works for lowervolume roads and thin pavement rehabs.
Even pavements not originally designed
to be perpetual can be converted one
inch of asphalt at a time.
Mixing Quiet
Road noise from pavement can be attacked in a number of ways.
Mixes are a key variable, and the use of rubber in an asphalt mix
can make a significance contribution to noise reduction according to
some test strips.
