6 • JULY 2018 • WORLD FENCE NEWS Stephen "Nick" Markobrad, a veteran of more than 40 years in the fence and guardrail industry, passed away unexpectedly in Crete, Illinois on May 10, 2018. During his ca- reer he served with USS Cyclone Fence and GF Structures in Chicago, and had his own consulting business. Mr. Markobrad also was an active member of ASTM International, help- ing to implement standards and spec- ifications for materials in the fence industry. He served as chairman of ASTM Committee F14 on Fences and most recently acted as chairman of the work group on temporary fences. He was born on October 5, 1953, the son of Peter and Rae Markobrad. He is survived by his wife, Sherry Markobrad; children, Samuel Mar- kobrad of Chicago and Claire (Jeff) Cowan of Barrie, Ontario, Canada; siblings, Brad (Karie) Markobrad of Brookfield, Illinois; Syndy (Greg) Nugent of Winthrop Harbor, Illinois; and Diane (Larry) Edwards of Beach Park, Illinois; mother, Rae Markobrad of Zion, Illinois; and many family members, friends, and neighbors. He is preceded in death by his fa- ther, Peter Markobrad. Mr. Markobrad suffered a mas- sive stroke in 2011 and was very proud of how far he had come and the pow- er of positive thinking, according to friend and associate, Tom O'Toole, staff manager of Committee F14 on Fences. "Nick called me on a regular basis just to chat about his family and life in general. In addition to his ongoing stroke treatment, Nick volunteered at the Rush University Medical Center for stroke care, providing that same positive thinking and encouragement to people who recently suffered from this debilitating condition," he said. He also shares some legal secrets that the general contractor doesn't want construction subcontractors to know. "Change Orders" (Item #8123) is $65 for ASA members and $95 non- members. This and other on-demand videos are available through FASA's Contractors' Knowledge Depot (www.asaonline.com). FASA was established in 1987 as a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt entity to sup- port research, education and public awareness. Topics will include marijuana use laws, electronic takeoff software solutions, group captive insurance, project management communication between general contractors and subcontractors as it relates to the project schedule, improving the change order process, work-in-progress reporting, the best and worst construction legal decisions of 2018, Lean construction, wrap-up insurance, and tax planning under the new tax law.
