8 • JULY 2018 • WORLD FENCE NEWS Reduced registration fee offered as AFA unveils new Certified Fence Contractor (CFC) program PLANO, Tex. – The American Fence Association (AFA) announced it will launch a new program, the Cer- tified Fence Contractor (CFC) School, at the 2018 AFA University later this year. The CFC school will focus on business management practices in the fence and gate industry, and is target- ed towards managers and owners of fence and gate companies. To mark the start of the CFC pro- gram, association officials have adopt- ed a one-time only tuition reduction of 50 percent. The CFC exam fee ordi- narily is $750 for AFA members and $900 for nonmembers, but AFA said it will offer the exam at AFA Univer- sity 2018 at $375 for AFA members and $450 for nonmembers. The CFC school will debut at AFA University Nov. 4 – 9 in Arling- ton, Tex. The five-day course will cov- er sales and marketing, accounting, bidding and estimating, insurance and legal issues, OSHA compliance and safety management, and UL 325 and ASTM F2200 standards. Eligibility requirements include pre-qualifying exams on fence instal- lation for chain link, wood, compos- ite, ornamental metal, vinyl and farm and ranch products. The school will focus entirely on the management as- pects of the business, and will include a comprehensive final exam. Individuals successfully complet- ing the school and passing the final exam will be granted the Certified Fence Contractor credential. "This program represents a ma- jor step forward in giving consumers the ability to more easily identify pro- fessionals in our industry," said Tony Thornton, executive director of AFA. "As property owners and busi- nesses become more security con- scious than ever before, it's important we enable them to select a contractor knowing they meet the high standards of expertise and professionalism rep- resented by the American Fence As- sociation," he said. In addition to identifying top per- forming fence contractors, the course will give attendees industry-specific management education specifically created for the fence industry.
