National Catholic Forester 30 MY FAITH Revolution of Goodness I recently had a wonderful conversa on with a friend of mine who is a Franciscan. Several young members of her order arranged a conven on of sharing and prayer in La Crosse, Wisconsin which is the center of their order. The conven on was called "Revolu on of Goodness." Par cipa on was open and over eight hundred people a ended. Par cipants were asked to interview at least five people before the conven on started seeking their personal defini on of goodness. The results of these interviews became the basis of small group discussion during the conven on. Many people wondered what revolu on and goodness had to do with each other. Revolu on smacked of something vola le and upending. Others were taken up with trying to define what goodness meant. My sister friend was par cularly moved by one of the prayer moments as eight hundred people all joined in prayer together. She told me that on her right side was a Mormon pastor and on her le was a rabbi, all joining together. What was evident to her and others during the prayer was the incredible sense of the presence of God. Do we take me to search for the goodness within ourselves and others? Or is our first impression, especially if it is nega ve, what we take away from our encounters. If we could all, no ma er our religious persuasion, direct our first efforts with encountering others, to name something of their goodness, a true revolu on would take place. FATHER CURTIS A.
