CHANGING LANES Compressors feed air at a high rate of speed through a hose to the Air Titan vehicles, which then blow the air in narrow, highly pressurized sheets over the race surface. The water is pushed down onto the track apron where a vacuum truck will suck it up. Finally, jet dryers will still get in on the act, following Air Titan to make sure the drying is complete. And those old-school blowers also will see plenty of fair weather use. Allmendinger was suspended by NASCAR last summer for failing a random drug test, it was unclear if he would ever race again. But after completing a rehab program, he's found work in IndyCar. His former NASCAR employer Roger Penske gave Allmendinger another shot in open wheel. He last was in an open cockpit car in 2006, when won five races for the Gerry Forsythe team.
