28 • JUNE 2013 • WORLD FENCE NEWS Gate closing system offers "Positive Force" CYPRESS, Calif. — The Positive Force Gate Closing System is a hydraulic system that provides steady and dependable closing pressure as well as the unique feature of eliminating gate hinges, according to the manufacturer. Its design is suited for retrofitting or new construction, and for use on wrought iron, round tube, or chain link gates. The Positive Force Gate Closing System utilizes a U.L. approved overhead concealed door closer. The closer is placed inside a patented metal housing which is welded to the top of the hinge post. Another housing is welded to the top of the gate and holds an adjustable arm that attaches the gate and fence together. The bottom of the gate is secured These photos show the Positive Force Gate Closer installed on different types of swing gates. The gate is controlled without hinges or springs, allowing it to open and close with a controlled pressure of from 5 to 15 pounds, depending on which model closer is utilized. Low pressure operating requirements are part of many Americans With Disabilities Act (ADA) installations. "A real advantage is that by maintaining constant closing pressure it allows improved latching ability and lessens noise complaints from slamming gates," noted director of operations Nathan Mowery. "It also improves the longevity of the lock hardware with its slow and smooth closing." The gate is limited to about 105 degrees opening distance. It is recommended that a physical stop be installed to restrict how far the gate can open; failure to adhere to this could result in the need of replacing the adjustable arm. The gate can also open in both directions if not being used as a swimming pool or security gate, thus allowing its use on gates for side yards, backyards and various other applications, Mowery said. A variety of different closers is available, from fixed spring tension closers to ADA adjustable spring closers. All of these slide into the closer housing mounted to the top of the post and are interchangeable, he added. For more information on this product, call 714-471-7747 or visit www.pfgcs.com.
