WORLD FENCE NEWS • JUNE 2013 • LiftMaster launches partnership with Firefighter Combat Challenge ELMHURST, Ill. – LiftMaster® kicked off the 2013 Fire Department Instructor Conference (FDIC) by showcasing its range of commercial door operators specifically equipped for firehouses, as well as announcing its new partnership with the Firefighter Combat Challenge (FCC). At the exhibition, held from April 22-27 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, attendees had the opportunity to see first-hand LiftMaster's newest commercial innovations for fire stations, including applications that increase the safety and reliability of firehouse entrance points. In addition to sponsoring the FCC at the show, LiftMaster will show its continued support for the challenge and firefighters at 24 regional events throughout 2013. LiftMaster unveiled its new partnership with the Firefighter Combat Challenge at the FDIC show. The challenge, known as the toughest two minutes in sports, consists of firefighters wearing "full bunker gear" and competing in a race as they simulate the physical demands of real-life firefighting. Firefighters must perform a linked series of five tasks, including climbing a five story tower, hoisting, chopping, and dragging hoses and rescuing a life sized, 175 pound "victim" as they race against the clock and their competitors. "We are proud to support these local heroes and help fire stations across the country maintain safety and security with commercial door operators that exceed every possible standard," noted Neal Villarin, manager, sponsorship and event marketing at LiftMaster. "By partnering with the FCC throughout 2013, LiftMaster will have the chance to work directly with firefighters and firehouses to create lasting solutions that ensure they have the resources they need to be able to open their doors quickly and safely when the bell rings." LiftMaster featured its wide offering of commercial door operators and accessories, specifically configured to meet the safety, security, and convenience demands of today's firehouses. Attendees saw two of LiftMaster's industrial duty commercial operators in action: the Trolley Model T5011L4 and the Hoist Model H5011L4. The Trolley model is designed for standard lift sectional doors, while the Hoist is designed for taller rolling and sectional doors or sectional doors with a vertical or high lift. Each operator comes standard with these advanced features: • Timer-to-close allows fire stations to set the doors to close automatically, as soon as the truck is clear, which eliminates the potential for theft and damage and keeps the station secure. • Built in 3-channel 315MHz radio receiver enables firefighters to remotely control the commercial door operator by adding optional remote controls or wireless keyless entry systems. Up to 23 Security+ remote controls or an unlimited number of dip switch remotes can be programmed with open/close/stop control. • The Maintenance Alert System reminds the station when it is time to contact a LiftMaster dealer for routine maintenance. This system can be set to alert based on calendar date or after a selectable number of operator cycles. Along with the commercial door operators on display, visitors to LiftMaster's booth had the opportunity to check out the add-on accessories for fire stations, including the FH1 and FH2 packages. Both packages include: • Photo eye safety sensors that increase the level of safety by incorporating a second set of sensors to monitor for vehicles and high apparatus equipment, along with the first set that ensure the door stops when people cross the sensors' path. • The red/green traffic light connects to the LiftMaster commercial door operator and alerts the fire engine engineer when the door is fully open to drive through, changing from red to green when the door has reached its full open position to prevent unnecessary damage. • The open only push button controls the entire operating system, allowing for all doors to be opened to the full position at once, saving the team time. This button also automatically enables the timer-to-close feature to protect the firehouse at all times. LiftMaster's new commercial applications for fire stations have already made an impact on one community. After two major door repairs, the Albemarle Fire Department of Albemarle, N.C. recently upgraded their firehouse commercial door systems in station #1. "Our LiftMaster door enhancements have eliminated costly door repairs, while providing a safer workplace for our firefighters and allowing our units to respond to emergencies faster," saod Chief Shawn Oke, Albemarle Fire Department.
