Regional Snapshots ("How Do Contractors Spell Relief?" continued from page 33) U.S. Rocky Mountain Leading Economic Indicators Say: Recovery is On Here! Jeff Scott AED Director, Rocky Mountain Region Intermountain Bobcat, Salt Lake City, Utah Dealers across the region enjoyed sales increases year over year in 2012 over 2011. Going into 2013 more of the same is happening, albeit slowly at first and building as the year goes on. Market conditions in all states have shown signs of stability and recovery. A cautious sense of optimism is slowly creeping in after postelection pessimism, now primarily overshadowed by a bullish economy, lower unemployment and housing growth – real economic indicators that drive our businesses! Other aspects of dealers' businesses will remain strong: parts, service, new and used sales, and especially rental, as the economy grows at a cautious pace. Forecast: All Rocky Mountain states will experience growth in 2013. Even the hardest hit states like Arizona are beginning to show positive signs as employment improves and credit lending softens. The recovery is on and in full swing in the West/Rocky Mountain states, with mining and energy sectors strong, all phases of construction on the upswing: commercial/nonresidential, infrastructure development, and positive year-over-year growth in housing, the Holy Grail of construction equipment growth, and the leading economic indicator that the recovery is on! n 34 | www.cedmag.com | Construction Equipment Distribution | August 2013 32_Directors_Feature_KP1.indd 34 7/25/13 12:46 PM
