CT SHOWCASE Gibson Metal Mulisha California-based Gibson Performance Exhaust has teamed up with Metal Mulisha and "The General" Brian Deegan to offer gas pickup owner's of all brands a true Metal Mulisha Exhaust. What you get with each stainless-steel system is ear-thumping sound, a power hit, and American-made quality. Metal Mulisha won't leave you hanging with small pipe either, we got it real big all the way to the tip! www.Gibsonperformance.com; (800) 528-3044 Banks Power EcoBoost Banks Power now has a Monster Exhaust system for the 2011-up F-150 3.5L EcoBoost trucks. The heavy-duty stainless steel, large bore, mandrel-bent exhaust tubing connects to the truck's factory intermediate pipe, reducing backpressure and maximizing fuel efficiency. It's designed to eliminate in-cab drone and resonance which can be very pronounced on variable cam timing V6s, while maintaining a throaty performance sound. Direct bolt-on for the do-it-yourselfer. www.bankspower.com; (800) 605-1428 Corsa Performance Corsa Performance is a full-line exhaust-system company offering complete systems for Chevrolet, Ford, Dodge, GM, Nissan and Toyota full-size pickups – both gasoline and non-DPF diesels. The exhaust is for 2011-2012 Toyota Tundra Double Cab and Crew Max 5.7L models. The stainless steel, single side-exit system improves exhaust flow by 16 percent, adding 3hp and 9 footpounds of torque. Another benefit: Corsa's patented Reflective Sound Cancellation (RSC) technology eliminates interior exhaust drone. www.corsaperformance.com; (800) 486-0999 Flowmaster One of the top names in the aftermarket exhaust industry, Flowmaster, offers cat-back systems for Ford F-150, Ram 1500, Chevy/GMC 1500, and Nissan Titan. All of the exhaust products use 409 stainless-steel, mandrel-bent tubing and come with all necessary hangers, installation instructions and the backing of a 10-year limited warranty. flowmastermufflers.com; (800) 544-4761 GM diesel owners will find the bolt-on Banks Power Monster Exhaust System for the 2011-up GM 6.6L Duramax a nice upgrade. The 4-inch heavy-duty stainless DPF-back system features a constant-diameter intermediate pipe and tailpipe, cutting backpressure by nearly 57-percent. The 6-inch CoolCuff stays cooler than OE. The system includes a 6-by-5-inch ob-round angle-cut rolled-edge tailpipe tip in polished chrome-over stainless or high-temp black. www.bankspower.com; (800) 605-1428 When shopping for an aftermarket diesel exhaust system, the initials DPF will often be listed in the specifications for the exhaust setup. DPF – short for diesel particulate filter – is a device that traps and holds about 90 percent of the soot and particulate matter from the exhaust gases of a diesel engine, visibly reducing the tell-tale black exhaust smoke associated with diesel engines powering pickups, semi-tractors, and construction equipment. Inside the DPF, a honeycomb filter traps the particulates as the exhaust gases pass through. Over time, the filter fills up with soot and needs to be changed or cleaned to retain efficiency. On most newer diesel pickups the DPF is purged via the use of a catalyst or over-fueling when the onboard computers sense a decrease in exhaust flow out the tailpipe. The latter triggers an injection of raw fuel into the device where it flashes off when rising internal temperatures ingnite the unburnt fuel. Removing or otherwise circumventing the DPF does improve exhaust flow, which might lead to better fuel economy and more power. However, removing any pickup's DPF and going with a "turbo-back," DPF-delete exhaust upgrade for any reason other than use off-road or racing is a major violation of federal air pollution laws. The better route to maintaing or reviving an older diesel's performance is to have the DPF cleaned. Check the internet and local shops for those services. A refurbished DPF will make a big difference in how a high-mileage, DPF-fitted diesel performs. -- Bruce W.
