Biological disease control B ayer CropScience has introduced Serenade Optimum, a biological fungicide and bactericide for controlling diseases in grapes, strawberries, and some vegetables. Serenade Optimum (Bacillus subtilis strain QST 713) can be used to target fun- gal diseases, such as Botrytis, and bacterial diseases, such as Xanthomonas and Erwinia. Its multisite mode of action makes it dif- ficult for disease organisms to develop resistance. The product has a four-hour reentry interval, and can be used up to the day of harvest.
