Bridging the gap
Owner-operator Darren McGowan of Nichols,
Iowa, is leased to Iowa-based specialized
carrier Cascade Holdings, for whom he hauls
bridge beams and long steel. McGowan was
hauling a 103-foot beam weighing 70,000
pounds from Arkansas to a bridge project in
Chicago in June 2013 when this photo was
taken. His truck, a 2005 Freightliner Argosy,
is powered by a 14L Detroit engine and an
18-speed transmission.
