ON THE GREEN
The most basic questions you have to answer when you are putting are: “Is the putt uphill or downhill?” and “Will this curve to the right or to the left?” Always determine the up or downhill slope first, since it will affect how hard or soft you will hit the ball.
Speed and distance control is the most important part of putting. It is also the cause of most three putts. If you can’t figure out which way the ball is going to
curve, remember that most greens are sloped from back to front. This means that the front of the green is the lowest spot on the green. Gravity will pull your ball to the lowest spot so, using the front of the green for a curving direction isn’t a bad guess!
If you haven’t been on the course with your instructor, you should schedule a playing lesson with them soon. If you do not have an instructor to watch you play a few holes, try these simple on-course tips to help you shoot lower scores.
