August 2-6, 2014 The International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) Annual In- ternational Conference and Trade Show is the biggest gather- ing of researchers, educators, and practicing arborists and urban foresters from around the world. In addition to drawing top speakers to present on the latest research and techniques, the ISA conference provides a forum for the open exchange of ideas, emerging technology, and the latest products and services. 2014 Educational Programming Hands-on Tree Academy Workshops will be held on Saturday and Sunday, August 2-3. Learn about Tree Risk Assessment, Tree Problem Diagnostics, Increasing Climbing Effi ciency, and other interesting topics you can choose from and earn up to 9 CEUs. Educational sessions will be held Monday through Wednes- day, August 4-6 at the Wisconsin Center. Earn up to 16 CEUs Monday: EAB Management Strategies, Urban Forest Remote Sensing, Integrated Pest Management, Green Infrastructure I, Herbicides and Pesticides in Arboriculture, plus more. Tuesday: Trees and Soils, Green Infrastructure II, Biology of Urban Environments, Trees and Society, Tree Biomechanics, Trees and Storms, Global Arboriculture, UAA and SMA joint utility/municipal arboriculture session, and more. Wednesday: Restoration and Heritage Tree Pruning, Tree Structure and Function, Maintenance and Mitigation, plus AREA research presentations, sessions for Utility, Municipal, and Commercial arboriculture. Monday Keynote Speaker: John Norquist, president and CEO of Congress for New Urbanism, Chicago Norquist is a leader in national discussions of urban design and educational issues. Norquist's work promoting New Urbanism as an alternative and antidote to sprawl's so- cial and environmental problems draws on his experience as big-city mayor. Under his leadership as Mayor of Milwaukee from 1988-2004, the city experienced a revision of the city's zoning code and reoriented development around walkable streets and public amenities such as the 3.1 mile Riverwalk. Norquist is the author of The Wealth of Cities and has taught courses in urban planning and development at the Univer- sity of Chicago, Marquette University, and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee's School of Architecture and Urban Planning. Climbers' Corner Climbers' Corner sessions will be held Monday and Tuesday, August 4-5 on the Trade Show fl oor at the Wisconsin Center. Topics include The Ergonomics and Biomechanics of Arborist Ascent and Work Positioning Aloft, How to Care for Your Body as an Industrial Athlete, DST: Working in Trees with Redun- dant Safety, The Art and Science of Practical Rigging, Chain Saw Safety, Precision Tree Felling, Dynamics of the Cut, and presentations from ITCC on Aerial Rescue and Ascent Event.
