September To-Do List: Hey, fall. It's good to see you again. Let's get going on the right foot, with the right attitude • Try this on for size: Style is a state of mind • Getting there is up to you • Start with confidence • Hold your head high • Put your shoul- ders back • And strut your stuff (all of it) • Add a bit of personality • Be bold, colorful or classic • Be anything you want to be • Just be • Let go of expectations • Embrace who you are • Stop looking to others for advice • proud Trust your gut (you know, Stand up for what matters • Mix in a healthy dose of encourage- ment • the one you're hiding under that Spanx? That's what it's there for) • Stick to your guns • Believe in good • Let the crazy out and the kindness in • Start a gratitude journal • Don't tell your friends they're pretty—tell them they're smart • Relish in the good reviews • Learn from the bad ones • But don't let others change you at your core • Use the tools you have • Whether it's a great pair of shoes or a smile—only you know how to use them • Know that time does exist for you each day, you just have to take it • Add a dash of silly, a pinch of laughter and a sweet smile • Starting anew isn't so bad when there's so much to feel good about ••• September 2011 bravamagazine.com 71 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month This October you can help raise awareness about domestic abuse in our community and support DAIS (Domestic Abuse Intervention Services), the only emergency domestic abuse shelter serving Dane County. Participation in Domestic Violence Awareness Month Activities will help DAIS provide critical services to the one in four women and their children in Dane County who are victims of domestic abuse. Scheduled Events: A Week of Better DAIS—Oct. 2 -9 During this week, local businesses will host events for DAIS to raise awareness about domestic violence. Confirmed activities include: • Chico's Exclusive Shopping Experience—Oct. 2, Chico's Greenway Station • Purple Ribbon Walk around the Capitol Square—Oct. 3, at noon • Dine Out for DAIS—Oct. 6, various local restaurants 2nd Annual Traja Fall Fundraiser—Oct.15, Badger Bowl Holiday Preview Runway Show—Oct. 26, Bergamont Country Club And much more!
