34 • FEBRUARY 2015 • WORLD FENCE NEWS Taylor Made Fence founder's life had many facets Herman Jackson Taylor, 90, founder of Taylor Made Fence in War- ren, Michigan, passed away on Sun- day, December 14, 2014. He was preceded in death by his wife, Alma Jean, as well as his oldest son, Ronald. Mr. Taylor is survived by his son, Michael (Terri) Taylor of Warren, Michigan; grandchildren, Ty Taylor, Cam Vettraino, Tonnie Powers of Lake Orion, Michigan, Angel (Alcu- in) Arche of Wash- ington, Michigan, Pam (Vince) Macri of China Township, Michigan, Christi Taylor of Chesterfi eld Township, Michigan, Ray Kott of Warren, Michigan and Sarah Kott of Warren, Michigan; and great grandchildren, Blake, Taylor, Jeremy, Drew, Riley, Noah, Jenna, Bryce, Logan, Avery, Chloe, Brody, Jimmie, and Peyton. Mr. Taylor was born on July 25, 1924 in Ashland City, Tennessee. He served in World War II, fi ghting in the Battle of the Bulge. "After his years in the service, Herman started out as a welder," said Michael Taylor. "In 1954, he estab- lished his fencing business, Taylor Made Fence. He worked incredibly hard to have a hands-on, thriving business that he could be proud of. "He subcontracted fencing for Montgomery Ward, doing work in the state of Michigan for 20 years. He prided himself on having a fami- ly-owned business, taking care of the the sales and bookkeeping, and only hiring assistance for installation of the fences. "Upon his retirement, I took over the fence business, which is still in op- eration today," said Michael. "Herman gave me direction in the transition, keeping active in the everyday opera- tions of the business." Mr. Taylor created a home in Madison Heights in his early years to raise a family. He had a great love for animals, including a passion for horse racing. He moved to Romeo, where he had a farm with horses. He enjoyed many years, mostly local, as both an owner and trainer for thoroughbred horses. When he retired, Mr. Taylor re- turned to Ashland City, Tennessee, where he volunteered for Meals on Wheels for six years. He subsequently returned to Michigan, sharing the last several years of his life with his son's imme- diate and extended family and friends, who were often entertained by his sto- ries.
