All pumps are assumed to be water well type. 2 BEP = Best Efficiency Point. BEP Zone = +/- 10% of displayed flow rates at the bowl size BEP. 3 Based on the minimum pump chamber size required for the bowl and column(C) (VTP) or the bowl, riser pipe (R), and drop cable (VSP). 4 Based on optimum well sizing for bowl and column (VTP) or bowl/motor, drop pipe, and drop cable (VSP). 5 VTP Driver (VTPDr) can be a Vertical Holloshaft (VHS), Vertical Solidshaft (VSS), or Right-Angle Drive with horizontal electric motor or engine. 6 2 Pole (2P) = 3600 RPM. 4 Pole (4P) =1800 RPM. 6 Pole (6P) = 1200 RPM. 8 Pole (8P) = 900 RPM nominal speed. Maximum and Minimum VSP Riser Pipe (R) and VTP Column Pipe(C) Design Flow Rates Submersible Pumps: 1"=3-10 GPM. 1.25"=20 GPM. 1.5"=30 GPM. 2"=60 GPM. 2.5"=90 GPM. 3"=160 GPM. 4" = 350 GPM. (Max. Hf = ~10'/hundred feet of riser pipe) 5"=600 GPM. 6"=900 GPM. 8"=1500 GPM. 10"=2500 GPM. 12"=4000 GPM. (For minimum design flows in riser pipes for sizes: 1"-4" use the maximum value of the size immediately preceding; for sizes 5"-12" use two sizes lower.) Example: Use 160 GPM as minimum flow for 4" riser pipe; use 350 GPM (4" maximum) as the minimum flow for 6" riser pipe. Vertical Turbine Pumps: 4" water-lube = 150 GPM. 5" water-lube = 300 GPM. 6" water-lube = 600 GPM. (Max. hf = 6'-8'/hundred feet of column pipe) 8" water-lube = 1200 GPM. 10" water-lube = 2500 GPM. 12" water-lube = 4000 GPM. (For minimum flows, use the column size immediately preceding.) Example: For 8", use 600 GPM (6"maximum) as the minimum flow. Note: All submersible pump installations are assumed as Schedule 40 steel; threaded and coupled (T&C) (1"-12") or alt. of welded (>8") style drop pipe with a limiting friction loss ("C" = 110) of ~10' per hundred feet of pipe at the maximum design flow (Uphole Velocity Range = 5-10 FPS) and with an appropriate size of 3 conductor plus ground flat/twisted style drop cable. Both types: VSP & VTP are assumed as bottom fed. ENGINEERING continues on page 46
