I DA U N I V E R S A L N ove m b e r - D e ce m b e r 2 0 1 5 7 PRESIDENT'S POST Bob Creighton IDA President 2015-17 W ith my fi rst submission to the IDA Universal, I would like to thank all of you for your confi - dence and support in me as your president of IDA. I respect the position you have bestowed on me, and I promise that I will do my best to carry on the traditions and uphold the respect that our association commands in the industry. As I have said to many of you, I am thankful for the opportunity to give back to the industry that feeds me, and I look forward to the next two years as your president. e 2015 Convention in Miami is now complete, and it was a very positive experience for our association. I understand from speaking with the golfers that while the weather was hot and humid, it was a great event, enjoyed by all who attended. Special thanks to Terry McKay of Black Cat Blades for once again spearheading organiza- tion of the golf tournament. A big thank you, as well, to the sponsors of the tournament. While the golfers were on the course, a good number of us took a trip on the Miami Lady. We cruised Biscayne Bay and caught the most beautiful view of the Miami skyline before descending upon Millionaires Row, where we saw many homes of the rich and famous. Of particular interest for me was the Port of Miami, where the container ships would load and unload those a ermarket parts we all play in. A er the cruise, we traveled to Wynwood Kitchen and Bar for a very enjoy- Greetings to IDA Members able "Innovative Latin-infl u- enced" family style luncheon. e opening reception was one of the best attended and proved a good starting point for getting us all together to renew old friendships and acquain- tances. In our business meeting on ursday, we introduced a new slate of offi cers, and then three new members of the IDA Board were elected. IDA 2016-17 Offi cers: Bob Creighton, President; Paul Bonovich, Vice President; Amr Elborai, Secretary-Treasurer; and Pete Smith, Immediate Past President. Alejandro Paret of Diesel Rebuild Kits, Medley, FL, and Todd Resser, H & R Construction, Buff alo, NY, are the new repre- sentatives on the Board for the North American Region; and Mr. Peter Svendsgaard, Ira Svends- gaard and Associates, Placerville, California. Congratulations to everyone! It is great to see new faces and some of our younger members getting involved. I am positive they will all bring new ideas with them to the board. Our fi rst speaker on ursday was Robert B. Tucker, president of e Innovation Resource. He spoke on the three pillars of business – Attitude, Relationship and Process – and how it takes all three for a company to work eff ectively. In between speakers, we introduced a new IDA Member Services company, Blue Tiger International, and Tom Cook, managing director, who presented a white paper on International Freight and Trade Compliance. Are you an "owl, "eagle," "dove" or a "rooster?" Our second speaker caught our attention by giving money away for correct answers, challenging us to under- stand the types of people we deal with and to record their style and adapt our approach to dealing with them. e trade show on Friday was well attended, with a17 percent increase in attendance over the Chicago, IL, show and a 49 percent increase over the Banff , Alberta show. Be sure to mark your calen- dars for October 26-29, 2016. e IDA Convention will be moving to Long Beach, California, where we will be staying at the Hyatt Regency Long Beach. is West Coast venue should prove exciting, with warm weather, little precipitation and clear skies with wonderful sunsets and stars over the water. Going into the holiday season, Lee Anne and I would like to wish all the IDA members and their families a Happy Holiday. Bob Creighton
