Chef'Mermaid Cafés Corner If you want to know what foods are in sea- son, simply stroll into the Mermaid Café. Nestled on Madison's east side, the eatery and coffee shop first made a name for itself as one of the places to head for finding lo- cally sourced breakfast and lunch fare. "Our food is fresh, seasonal, approach- able and bursting with flavor," says own- er Lisa Jacobson, who has now brought her emphasis on local eats into the dinner hours as well. A small evening menu offers a selection of dishes, salads and house spe- cials, keeping the focus on seasonal food, including savory offerings such as the an- cho marinated potato tacos pictured here. Check the chalkboard menu, order up something in season and when the weather warms, head outside to enjoy it in the fresh air. With patio seating and local wine and beer on tap, it's the perfect place to spend a spring evening. Mermaid Café is located at 1929 Winnebago St., Madison; (608) 249-9719 or mermaidcafemadison.com.
