INTERNATIONAL TRADE FAIR FOR GEMS, JEWELLERY AND GEMSTONE OBJECTS October 5th Expectations are positive for the INTERGEM 2012 The 28th INTERGEM, from October 5th – 8th 2012 promises to become an excellent year since the gemstone market has strongly recovered. Diamonds and gemstones as keepers of true value have be- come more popular than ever. About 170 exhibitors can look forward to a high customer interest and willingness to buy from the expected 3600 buying agents from around the world. As of today the request for gemstones seems to exceed all ex- pectations. „There has been a sensational comeback since the crisis. Large diamonds, which have always been in demand, have distinctly increased in price. Small diamonds have almost reached historic price levels", says Christian Klein from Ph. Hahn Söhne. „Large and exceptional gemstones of highest quality are highly requested with our Paraiba-tourmalines being our top sellers", reports Nicole Ripp from Groh + Ripp. Constantin Wild adds: „Coloured gemstones are becoming rarer each day, selling stones is easier than buying at the moment". Dr. Konrad Henn from Karl Faller states: „On Average we can only replace two of three sold rubies. is pleased about increased quality awareness: „Japanese ako- yas have become a trademarked good around the globe. Espe- cially exceptional pieces like our akoya keshis are demanded. " There are numerous reasons for this market development. On the one hand lots of deposits are drained. Additionally a great number of mines were closed and searches for new deposits " Boris Dillenburger from Perlen Yukie - 8th 2012 were stopped during the crisis. Markets for luxury goods are recovering faster than expected, especially demand from the Far East, in particular China exceeds the off ers. Some markets for gemstones are completely sold out. This is where the IN- TERGEM, the gemstone sector's shop window, can play out its location. In Idar-Oberstein buying agents can fi nd rarities which cannot be found anywhere else. Some exhibitors main- tain best relationships to producers in the countries of origin; others even have their own mines. Most of the INTERGEM's ex- hibitors have an extraordinary well-assorted stock and almost every large and precious stone is still cut by the specialists from Idar-Oberstein. „The pre-reservations have already surpassed the level from last year", says INTERGEM's managing director Kai-Uwe Hille. „The atmosphere among exhibitors is remarkably good. The fall-date has shown to be perfect for the upcoming Christmas sales.
