your distinct advantage over the compe- tition. This session will provide the latest in the solar landscape, growth potential, and the myths/truths behind solar installation and its viability. Addi- tionally, learn about solar applications and how to partner with your local solar installer. Presenter: Jeff Frank, Franklin Electric DACUM Codes: PIC5 Ten Things You Wish the Public Knew Thursday, December 8 8–9 a.m. End-users such as homeowners and farmers who have their own private water systems generally have little knowledge of how water gets to their tap. Despite the best efforts of industry associations, manufacturers, and profes- sionals, there is still a wealth of infor- mation the public can learn about groundwater and the groundwater indus- try. In this session, discover 10 things about our industry in hopes it may help you better communicate and educate your customers. Presenter: Mark Reeder, Franklin Electric DACUM Codes: DOA1, DOA3, DOA5, DOJ8, PIA3, PIA5, PIA6, PIG12 Water Quality An Assessment Tool to Evaluate Private Well Vulnerabilities and Risk Tuesday, December 6 4:15–5:15 p.m. Through a national workgroup of pri- vate well experts, an assessment tool has been developed to evaluate what poten- tial risks and vulnerabilities a private well owner might have, based on well construction, site conditions, geology, land use, and other factors. The assess- ment tool will be described and exam- ples of how the tool can be beneficial in educating well owners will be presented. Presenter: Steven D. Wilson, University of Illinois DACUM Codes: DOA3, DOA4, DOA5, DOB1, DOB2, DOF1, DOL11 Aquifer Characterization Tests and Pressure Transducer Data Collection Thursday, December 8, 8–9 a.m. This workshop will cover ground- water hydrology fundamentals and is designed for groundwater specialists, environmental professionals, and drill operators. Participants will learn how to streamline aquifer tests, reduce field time, and deliver reliable data. Due to technological advances, aquifer tests can be conducted with greater speed and accuracy and at a lower cost. This workshop will review slug tests, step- drawdown tests, and constant-rate pump tests; equipment requirements; test dura- tion; and techniques to improve effi- ciency in the field. Differences between absolute (non-vented) and gauged (vented) pressure transducers and meas- urements, and how to select the appro- priate pressure transducer, will also be covered. Presenter: Bill Mann, In-Situ Inc. DACUM Codes: DOB3, DOG8, DOL11, GHH Innovative and Time-Saving Techniques for Conducting a Low-Flow Groundwater Sampling Event Tuesday, December 6, 12:30–1:30 p.m. Low-flow groundwater sampling is an accepted method of collecting groundwater samples by following a strict set of guidelines to ensure that you collect representative samples. Learn the basics of low-flow sampling and how to perform a sampling event that complies with regulatory requirements. Attendees will receive an overview on regulatory guidelines, typical stabilization criteria, data collection, and calculations. Presenter: Bill Mann, In-Situ Inc. DACUM Codes: DOG9, PIE21, GGC Water Chemistry and Corrosion: Effects and Treatment Tuesday, December 6, 9:15–10:15 a.m. The recent report on groundwater corrosivity released by the USGS pointed out that certain water chemistries, specifically certain ratios of chloride to sulfate ions, can exacerbate galvanic corrosion. While a number of treatment options are available for coun- teracting low pH, galvanic corrosion requires a different approach. This pres- entation will sort out the chemistry of acidic corrosion and treatment as well as explore the impact of specific anion ra- tios on distribution systems containing dissimilar metals. Presenter: Perialwar Regunathan, Water Quality Association DACUM Codes: DOG9, PIC1, PIC9, PIE21, PIF8, PIF9 Water Treatment Opportunities: When to Hold Them and When to Fold Them Tuesday, December 6, 12:30-1:30 p.m. Thinking about diversifying your business into the water treatment arena? Where should you start? What do you need to know to be successful? This workshop will include actual testing for hardness, iron, pH, and total dissolved solids. We'll identify the problems by testing and then determine possible solutions. Presenter: Greg Gruett, Water-Right Inc., DACUM Codes: DOF2, DOF5, DOG9, DOJ8, PIE21, PIF8, PIF9 What Contractors Need to Know to Successfully Treat Water Tuesday, December 6, 8-9 a.m. Like any other profession, the key to being a credible water treatment profes- sional is to recognize water quality chal- lenges and identify what you and your company can and cannot fix. If you are to be successful, you need to know what to stay away from. Start with a small box and learn the decision points. Presenter: Greg Gruett, Water-Right Inc., DACUM Codes: DOF1, DOJ8, PIB3, PIF1, PIF9 Well Maintenance and Rehabilitation Operational Stages of the Well: Evaluating the Forms of Water Well Deterioration Wednesday, December 7 7:30–8:30 a.m. Twitter @WaterWellJournl EDUCATIONAL continues on page 40 WWJ October 2016 39
