November 2016 | Overdrive | 61 Fleet News By Dean SmallwooD Schneider honored for commitment to military PAY Little Rock, Ark.-based flat- bed company MAVERICK TRANSPORTATION increased pay for over-the-road drivers in its Temperature Control Division to reward and retain experienced drivers, provide an increase for student drivers after six months and attract new experienced drivers. At average mileage levels, the change will increase pay $4,000 a year. Experienced drivers will have a new rate of 46 to 50 cents per mile, and drivers also can earn up to 6 cents per mile in performance bonuses. Van Buren, Ark.-based USA TRUCK announced that its Independent Contractor Compensation Program now provides an improved mile- age rate of $1.02 to $1.35 per mile for all new contractors depending on length of haul. Independent contractors also now receive retail fuel dis- counts at in-network fuel stops, preferred labor rates and dis- counted parts at the company's maintenance facilities. FACILITIES Memphis, Tenn.-based OZARK MOTOR LINES opened a new terminal in Maysville, Ky., to accommodate growing business in the region. The terminal offers a number of amenities for drivers with the company's Maysville-based dedicated fleet, including full- service maintenance. For the sixth consecutive year, Green Bay, Wis.-based SCHNEIDER NATIONAL was named a Most Valuable Employer by CivilianJobs. com, which honors U.S.-based com- panies that recognize the contribu- tions of their military-experienced employees. The MVE award also helps veterans and current military personnel identify the top employ- ers to target for civilian careers. Winners are selected based on employers' recruiting, training and retention plans that best serve mili- tary service members and veterans.
