EQUIPMENT FOCUS Right-of-Way Equipment Bandit Model 3500 forestry mower The Model 3500 from Bandit Industries rides on a Caterpillar 312B steel-track undercarriage and offers up to 250 horsepower with separate hydraulic systems for the mower head and track drive. It uses a Bandit-designed 74- inch mower attachment with a vertical reach up to 8 feet, powered by twin hydraulic motors for exceptional grinding and mulching capability. The mower can be easily swapped for a 34-inch-diameter stump grinder head in approximately 10 minutes. The Model 3500 has a deluxe, climate-controlled operator's cab with state-of-the-art controls, and the cab tilts for easy access to the Model 3500's hydraulic systems. Brown Bear tool carrier land clearing machines Brown Bear Corporation's FS4000 and FS5000 handle the toughest jobs. The Cat-powered 250-hp. FS4000 and Cat- powered 350-hp. FS5000 can be fitted with either an 8-foot width cut fixed tooth or flail type clearing rotor, both with overlapping cutter tooth design that cuts stumps flat at the ground. The FS4000 and FS5000 carriers are fitted with logger tires, belly pans, cab guards, limb sweeps and other guarding necessary for woods and timber operation. Road speeds of 20 mph standard on both units. The FS4000 and FS5000 tool carriers can also be optionally fitted with either a 12-foot- or 14-foot-wide auger backfiller attachment. Loftness Tree Hammer 360 Loftness offers the Tree Hammer 360, which cuts and mulches material up to 10 inches in diameter. The Tree Hammer 360 is 101 inches wide with a cutting width of 80 inches. It is designed for tractors with up to 260 PTO horsepower and a Category II or III 3-point hitch. The unit can be pushed or pulled behind the tractor to cut, mow or mulch material. The 21-inch rotor is mounted on 3-inch piloted bearings with anti-wrap protection. The rotor contains 24 individually mounted hammers, which swing 360 degrees on double-tapered rolling bearings. A row of stationary teeth optimizes cutting performance, and a mulching door can be hydraulically opened or closed according to the application. A wide range of mulchers offered by SEPPI M SEPPI M. engineers and develops a wide range of mulching equipment. The flagship of the SEPPI M. range mulches wood up to 12 inches in diameter, and fits most types of hydraulic prime movers. Specific attachment interfaces are available, and adjustable skids provide height control. The rotor comes equipped with tungsten carbide tipped fixed teeth arranged in an aggressive and efficient design making quick work of stumps, wood and slash. All felling and clearing operations are easily controlled with the hydraulically operated hood, and optional push bar. Components are protected by guarding, yet easily accessible for maintenance. Terex G-Series mulcher attachment Specifically tuned for use with the Terex PT-100G forestry compact track loader, the new Terex G-Series mulcher attachment is designed with performance-enhancing features. The drum-style mulcher utilizes 36 double twin carbide teeth, allowing operators to quickly and efficiently clear and mulch a 61-inch-wide path, as well as the ability to plane stumps up to 12-inch diameter to ground level. The multi-stage action of the Terex G-Series mulcher attachment's 2- stage cutting chamber begins as the rotor picks up material and forces it to pass between the moving carbide teeth and the stationary counter teeth. The material is then processed into a fine mulch as it passes between the carbide teeth and the re-cutter bar before being discharged toward the ground. Unitil Corp. implements GeoDigital's Vegetation Management Solution GeoDigital Solutions announced that New England gas and electric service provider Unitil will implement GeoDigital's enhanced Vegetation Management Solution. The package includes VegWorks, one of the mobile applications in the WorkStudio suite of utility mobile tools, for assessors and crews. GeoDigital's Vegetation Management Solution automates typical utility work functions in right-of-way management of trees and ground cover. The VegWorks application is an easy-to-use mobile tool for assessors, vegetation crews, and auditors. Crews receive assigned work and record their completions using a simple pen-based interface. Auditors can generate and perform random audits to ensure work was completed as specified. All work is documented and can be quickly formatted to satisfy reporting requirements. www.arborage.com Arbor Age / July/August 2012 7 EQUIPMENT FOCUS
