I DA U N I V E R S A L N ove m b e r - D e ce m b e r 2 0 1 6 6 PRESIDENT'S POST Bob Creighton IDA President 2015-17 Dear IDA Members: O n Monday the 26th, a er checking into the Hyatt Regency Long Beach and returning the rental car, I come down to the lobby to see who is around. e fi rst person I run into is Don Frost and his wife Debbie. ey had just landed in from Australia a er a 14 hour plane ride. eir dedication to the association is rewarding to see. Next I meet Dennis Brown and his wife Julie, and over a couple of refreshments we discussed just about everything. A little bit of politics with the election coming up, but mostly it was all about IDA. How long have you been a member, Dennis's tenure as President and Brown's Heavy Equipment long term commitment to continue to come to the convention? is fast becomes a theme for me as I continue to meet members and soon realize that IDA is more than just an associa- tion with a once a year trade show. It is a facility to build on relationships with like minded people many of whom are in the same or like businesses as you are. You learn from almost everyone that you speak to. e age old question, how's business, is never answered with one or two words, it usually breaks out into a 5 to 10 minute discussion as you compare notes and at the end you have taken a few points away from the conversation, that you tell yourself you are going to look into on your return home. Wednesday the 26th is an exciting day for the golfers at the El Dorado Park Golf Course, with 53 golfers playing for some very good prizes. We have to thank Mr. Terry McKay from Black Cat Blades for organizing this event since it was fi rst started 11 years ago. We also have to thank our sponsors of the golf tourna- ment who help make the event so successful every year. ose of us who did not golf got a fi rst hand tour of the Queen Mary. Our guide James had a booming theatrical voice that had no trouble keeping the attention of his family, as he called us, as we toured everything from the grand hall to a fi ve-room state room. e business meeting on ursday ran very smoothly through the elections. Please welcome Joe Mosketti from Clark Machine Corporation out of Baltimore, Maryland as a new regular board member replacing Larry Kinn. Also welcome Martin Sadler from Friction Marketing Company who replaces Anders Freij as a new associate liaison board member. Our speaker this year Mr. Bob McIntyre, of Wegman, Hessler and Vanderburg, spoke on the signifi cant dangers that are present because of the electron ic communication revolution. e fi rst of two key topics was the critical need to protect business systems and communications from external attacks. It is not a question of if, but a question of when. Almost all of us use some form of electronic payment mode from customers or to vendors, ACH, EFT, wire, or most commonly, credit cards. e second topic was record keeping and most importantly, record retention. e focus here was on the very painful potential conse- quences resulting from careless or at worst, intentional record destruction, with penalties at administrative and judicial levels. During the morning session I had the extreme pleasure to present to the membership our newest Honorary member, Mr. Fulton Owensby Sr. from Stateline Road Machinery. Mr. Owensby served on the board from 1975 to 1989 and was presi- dent of your association from 1985 to 1989. Fulton's son in law Forest Miller was a director from 1995 to 2005 and your president from 2001 to 2003, and his son Fulton Owensby II was a director from 2006 to 2010. It is the dedication to the association from both Stateline Machinery and Mr. Fulton Owensby Sr. that brings him this honor. Prersident Creighton presenting newest Honorary Member, Fulton Owensby Sr.
