June 2017 | Overdrive | 45 Custom Rigs M ay was a profitable month for Minimizer Bandit Big Rig Series racer Ricky "Rude" Proffitt, who grabbed wins at Mont- gomery Motor Speedway in Alabama and Florence Motor Speedway in South Carolina, earning $10,000 for each checkered flag. With the two May victo- ries, Proffitt had won three Bandit Series races in a row and three of the first four of the season. In both May wins, Prof- fitt was able to take his time and take advantage of the situations that unfolded in front of him. In the May 13 race of 13 trucks in Montgomery, a timely caution helped him catch leader Allen Boles, who had enjoyed a full straight- away lead on the rest of the trucks. Proffitt passed Boles with four laps to go and never looked back. The next weekend in Florence, in a 14-truck race, Proffitt battled Justin Ball during the final five laps. The two had caught the tail end of the lapped trucks on the track, and Proffitt was able to use the traffic to get around Ball. On the final lap going into the last turn, Proffitt dove to the bottom of the race track below Ball to make the pass, and Ball was held up by the lapped truck of Chris Kikelhan, allow- ing Proffitt to seal the win. After a planned June 10 race at Greenville-Pickens Raceway in Easley, South Carolina, the series' next race is set for July 1 at Highland Rim Raceway in Greenbriar, Tennessee. Ricky "Rude" Proffitt celebrates his second win in the Minimizer Bandit Big Rig Series at Montgomery Motor Speedway in Alabama on May 13.
