Custom Rigs ReadeR Rigs 64 | Overdrive | August 2017 Down in the mines Reid Goodman of Lundar, Manitoba, hauls bulk products with a gross weight of 137,800 pounds to nickel mines in northern Manitoba, Canada, with this 2015 Peterbilt 389. The truck is powered by a 600-hp Cummins with an Eaton 18-speed and 3:90 rears. Goodman added powdercoated fuel tanks, double-round J.W. Speaker headlights, drop visors, red underglow, 8-inch straight pipes, stainless-steel bunk and tank skirts and stainless step box covers. What's old is new David Gates Jr. of Grangeville, Idaho, drives this 2000 Kenworth W900L for Fallon, Nevada-based Silver State Freight Brokerage and hauls steel floor joists and trusses to the Northwest. The truck is powered by a Cat 3406E with a Fuller 18-speed. It has 1.8 million miles, and Gates has owned it for seven years. He has replaced the engine, transmission, suspension and rear ends himself over the years and also has added custom exhaust, a drop visor and numerous LED lights. Two-tone dream Kyle Simon hauls flatbed freight around Denver for S&S Trucking with this 2005 Peterbilt 379 extended hood. The truck is powered by a 550-hp Cat that has been converted to a single turbo. Simon, his friends and his family have done a good amount of custom work, including the lights on the roof, a custom visor, stacks, a bumper with a flip kit and deck plates, wood flooring on the interior, custom front and rear fenders and more. The truck's tan color is original, but the purple on the top and bottom is custom. Shining bright Chris Porricelli, owner of three-truck fleet CAP Trucking of Altamonte Springs, Fla., uses this 2015 Peterbilt 389 Fitzgerald glider to haul produce and frozen foods between Florida and New Jersey. The truck is powered by a 500-hp 12.7-liter Detroit 60 Series with a 13-speed Eaton-Fuller and 3:55 rears. It has a 275-inch wheelbase and features a drop visor with matching window chops on the cab and sleeper. Porricelli added stripes to the paint job and lollipop lights to the bumper. The truck and trailer have more than 120 chicken lights. Porricelli spec'd the rig in memory of his grandfather who also drove and owned a wholesale produce company in New York.
