news & notes alabama's golf insider teesoff Locals on Tour The PGA Tour hosts the nal FedEx Cup event of the season with the Tour Championship at East Lake GC in Atlanta starting today. Locals in the elite eld of 30 players are Jason Dufner and, of course, Justin Thomas, with the former University of Alabama superstar capturing the Dell Technologies Championship at TPC Boston two weeks ago for his fth win of an amazing season. He is now neck-and- neck with his close friend Jordan Spieth in the chase for the FedEx Cup, with Thomas second on the FedEx Cup Points list. The PGA Tour Champions is Monterey, Calif. for the Pure Insurance Championship at famed Pebble Beach Golf Links and Poppy Hills with locals Glen Day, Gene Sauers and Joe Durant teeing it up. The Web.com Tour continues its Playo s this week, with the third of four events, with the DAP Champi- onship at Canterbury Golf Club in Beachwood, Ohio with locals Tom Lovelady, Michael Johnson, Trey Mullinax, Dicky Pride, Willy Wilcox and Casey Wit- tenberg all playing. Lovelady has locked down his PGA Tour card for next season courtesy of a tie for third two weeks ago, with the others still hoping to punch their tickets. The European Tour hosts the Portugal Masters at Dom Pedro Victoria Golf Course in Vilamoura with lo- cal Danny Willett playing. The Mackenzie Tour - Canada concluded their sea- son last week with the University of Alabama's Robby Shelton nishing second on the nal money list with winnings of $90,293, thus securing his fully exempt Web.com Tour card for next year via this tour. And the LPGA Tour is o this week. Symetra Tour in Prattville Friday- Sunday for the inaugural Guardian Championship The Symetra Tour, the o cial qualify- ing Tour for the LPGA Tour, will tee it up in Prattville Friday-Sunday in the inaugural Guardian Championship at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail's Capitol Hill Senator Course. Free admission to the tournament is being pro- vided by title sponsor Guardian Credit Union, which is based in nearby Montgomery and has committed to sponsor the event this year and next. "We are excited to be a part of the women's golf tradition in Alabama and o er free admission to see these professional athletes compete," Guardian Credit Union CEO Heath Harrell said. "As the local credit union, we thrive on community events and the Guardian Championship promises great things for everyone involved. Guardian is looking forward to the partnership with (the) Robert Trent Jones (Golf Trail) and the gol ng community." The tournament will o er a purse of $100,000, with winner taking home $15,000. The top 10 players on the Symetra Tour's Volvik Race for the Card money list at the end of the season earn LPGA Tour member- ship for 2018. Including the Guardian Championship, there are three events left on this year's schedule.
