Does this all make you stop and think … and review what is on your website? How many of these basic kinds of promotions happen every day in our industry? Far too many. And Janssens put this list together CALIFORNIA SWEEPS Californians have been denied the oppor tuni ty afforded consumers in the other 49 states to enter a sweepstakes or contest con- ducted by a manufacturer or supplier of alcoholic bever- ages. However, in August 2012, the California Senate passed SB 778, which allows producers and suppliers of wine, beer and spirits to conduct a consumer sweep- stakes or contest in Califor- nia. The bill, signed by Gov. Jerry Brown, takes effect on Jan. 1, 2013. According to the Wine Institute, SB 778 allows a Californian 21 years or older to submit, for example, a sweepstakes entry with a chance to win a trip to California wine country or to enter a contest for the best recipe or photograph. The legislation also allows licensed beverage suppli- ers to sponsor sweepstakes with non-profits, third-party providers, for-profit busi- nesses and licensed retailers consistent with the limita- tions in the measure.
