National Catholic Forester 30 MY FAITH Transformation to Life Spring is my favorite time of the year. Winter for me becomes "old" really fast, and I don't mean that in terms of the aging process. But spring connotes the joyful experience of witnessing change bursting forth all around me – a message from God through creation. One question I use to test myself is: "How long did it take me to recognize the first sign of green edging its way out of the earth? When did I first become aware of the buds on the trees, the texture of the grass coming alive, a breeze that did not come from the arctic wastelands?" Springtime speaks so clearly of Easter if we only pay attention to its clues. I know that at this time of year, which is probably the busiest for a parish priest, my mind can be so focused on a thousand concerns that it takes me days, even weeks before my spirit and body wake up to the signs of life around me, reminding me to look again for how God is inviting me to slow up and smell the flowers. How about you? Easter calls us to rejoice, but we can only do that if we have stopped and reflected on the signs of God reaching out to us, no matter what the circumstances of our life may be like, to say I am present, see how I can transform death into life!
