The company is an affiliate of Uber Freight and owned by Uber Technologies. Powerloop at its core is a trailer leasing program that rents trailers to participating carriers at $25 per day. It cre- ates what the company bills as a trailer pooling program, giving small fleets access to preloaded trailers in the Powerloop network. Powerloop's primary goal is to cut detention time at ship- pers and receivers. Instead of waiting to load and unload a dedicated trailer, the com- pany envisions an expedient drop-and-hook system. Kofi Asante, a Powerloop product strategist, said one of the system's primary benefits is that it provides carriers with backhaul loads. The system initially will focus only on intrastate loads in Texas, but the company plans to expand beyond that state, said Max Pike, strategy lead for Uber Freight. Also initially, the loads will be tendered in a more traditional method, with Powerloop representatives working as brokers between shippers and carriers for the preloaded trailers within the Powerloop network. Pike said the system will become "increasingly automated" over time, with loads eventually put on the Uber Freight platform and available in the app but only for carriers that are part of the Powerloop network. Uber's trailer rental arm aims to cut detention, deadhead Rates will be determined by Uber's pricing algorithms based on factors such as capacity and load demand. Pike said some Fortune 500 com- panies, including Anheuser-Busch, already participate on the shipper side. Operators interested in regis- tering for the program can do so at UberFreight.com/Powerloop. – James Jaillet
