REGIONAL REFRIGERATED demand, they can establish themselves as the truckstop of choice. When diesel costs $3.25 per gallon, a truck operator can save $4,000 per year over idling the trucks engine a signicant sum in an industry where margins are thin and efciency is critical to being competitive, Bates said. Truckstop operators also recognize that theyre doing something good for the environment and helping eets reduce their carbon footprints, which can make them more appealing to shippers who keep a close tab on their supply chains, he added. Shorepower Technologies has installed 55 locations with power pedestals as of the end of 2012, with 23 locations going online in the fourth quarter. The 55 locations offer more than 1,250 electried parking spaces, some with cable TV also available through the pedestal. Twenty of the locations provide connections to 480-volt power for hybrid refrigerated trailers, (eTru). The power pedestals are being installed as part of the Department of Energys Shorepower Truck Electrication Project (STEP) administered through Cascade Sierra Solutions, a non-prot based in Eugene, Ore. Since 2010, STEP has resulted in a 210 percent increase in the number of truckstops across the United States adding power pedestals. As a result, our host site partners are very excited about bringing electrication to their truckstops because they foresee a day very soon when even more truck eets will demand plug-ins. And they know if they provide them now, they will be much more competitive in the marketplace. OO 100 OW % OPERNER A FLEETOR T Top Pa y 100% F SC COME SEE US AT THE MID AMERICA TRUCK SHOW Booth #64012 Enter our 80 Years Rocks Giveaway for your chance to win a travel guitar.
