Introduction to Trucking by Tim Brady What It's Really Like Trucking, Part 16 Sightseeing on the road Trucking gives you spectacular scenery, fairs, friends, family, carnivals and circuses – but the truck's schedule comes first. Here's how Ben and Naomi dealt with some options. 1. Do you have much opportunity for 'touristtype' sightseeing? Ben: Sometimes I get a chance. But most of the time, it's just a pass-through. Naomi: It's hard to plan an excursion because most places you can't take a truck. However, I have family and friends all over the country, so a quick call and I usually have a car and company to enjoy. My granddaughter was born in January and, working with dispatch, I was able to get there to see her birth. 2. What places have you passed by you wish you could've enjoyed? 4 intro trucking 0413.indd 1 Ben: Gatlinburg, TN; Darlington, SC and Talladega Superspeedway. Naomi: I'd love to take my daughter, Abi, on a run to Ruby Falls and Lookout Mountain. And Universal Studios in Florida. I just never seem to have the time. 3. What's been your favorite place or attraction? Ben: The Gorge; I-40 East or Westbound between Tennessee and North Carolina. It is so beautiful! Naomi: Taking Abi to Florida and the Atlantic for her first time; to see her face light up was priceless. My other favorite was when I went through West Yellowstone and saw all the elk and moose. So beautiful!!! I did the 'slow roll' through there so I could savor everything. www.studentdriverplacement.com April '13 3/13/13 4:04 PM
