Crete, Shaffer Announce Owner Operator Pay Increases Crete Carrier and Shaffer Trucking are proud to announce a pay package increase for Independent Contractors and Fleet Owners. The pay increase includes both loaded and empty miles. The pay for loaded miles increases $.03 - $.06 per practical mile depending on trip length, and empty miles increased $.16 per practical mile. Additionally, Crete and Shaffer will continue to pay a fuel surcharge keeping costs at or below $1 per gallon.
