The Industry Association Coordination Task Force is made up of two members each from the Washington State Horticultural Association, Washington Growers Clearing House Association, Wenatchee Valley Traffic Association, and Yakima Valley Growers and Shippers Association, along with two at-large members. Leading the effort is West Mathison, president of Stemilt Growers, Inc., Wenatchee. Two years ago, while president of the Hort Association, Mathison noted that the groups have overlapping functions. He suggested that it would be in the industry's interest to try to eliminate duplication so that it can engage more effectively in legislative and regulatory issues. Kirk Mayer, manager of the Growers Clearing House, said one of the first steps is to identify what each group does and where the overlaps or gaps might be. Mathison said the task force members have been very collaborative and open-minded and will be doing a lot of industry outreach before moving forward.
