Networking News Local women and businesses on the move The University of Wisconsin System Board of Regents named Rebecca Blank chancellor of UW-Madison. Currently secretary of the U.S. Department of Commerce, she brings her economics expertise and vast teaching and administration experience to the university's top post. Jan Byce of Jan Byce Designs, a women's boutique in Hilldale Shopping Center, announced that she is retiring and closing her store. Jan Byce Designs was in business for 34 years. The Society for Research on Nicotine and Tobacco recognized Megan Piper, a lead researcher at the UW Center for Tobacco Research and Intervention and an assistant professor in the department of medicine, with its 2014 Jarvik-Russel Young Investigator Award. Marcy Holtz has joined the team at Kunkel & Associates as an associate account executive/nurse advocate. Holtz has more than four years of nursing experience with the UW Hospitals & Clinics and is a Marquette University alum. Mother-daughter team Jan Corradini and Renee Jackson reopened their paper and gift boutique, Sarah B. Fine Stationary, at a new location on Monroe Street. The shop offers event invitations, wrapping paper, greeting cards and a variety of decorative accessories for the home. Megan Cain, who designs the demonstration vegetable garden at the State Capitol, has launched The Creative Vegetable Gardener, a new business that aims to empower people to grow their own food through patch installation, advice and educational programs. $553,000 The amount in community grants awarded to local nonprofits by the South Central Wisconsin Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure. The organizations and their work, including helping uninsured women gain access to health services, were honored at the annual Pink Ribbon Celebration Dinner.
