Chef's Corner Jordandal Cookhouse By Liz Pelton Photo by Shanna Wolf Generally, if your meal is categorized as "fast food" it's a far cry from fresh, hearty cooking. Not so at Jordandal Cookhouse, a cozy new takeout joint in Verona showing how fast and farm-fresh can easily (and tastily) go hand-in-hand. "We wanted the menu to reflect wholesome cooking," says co-owner Carrie Johnson, explaining how much of the food is sourced locally, including meats from animals raised on Johnson and husband Eric's nearby Jordandal Farms. The menu reads like a greatest hits of nostalgic Midwestern dishes. Potpies, white cheddar macaroni, scrumptious sandwiches and Korean beef (pictured) are served with fresh sides such as pickled eggs or sweet potato and bacon salad. For lunch or dinner (stop in every Friday evening for BBQ pork ribs) it's the perfect place to bag a farm-to-fork meal in a jiffy. Jordandal Cookhouse is located at 600 W. Verona Ave., Verona; (608) 848-3298 or jordandalfarms.com.
