COURTESY GABRIELLE AMMANN//GALLERY, COLOGNE Gabrielle Ammann Nucleo, an art and design collective based in Italy, will show new works with Gabrielle Ammann gallery, including the Souvenir of the Last Century table, seen here. The group, which explores the intersection of contemporary art, design and architecture, uses innovative materials such as fiberglass, pigment resin and carbon fiber to create handmade, unique objects that challenge our perceptions of materials and forms. The one-of-a-kind table weighs more than 175 pounds and is made from wood and epoxy resin. FallenTree bench by Benjamin Graindorge Conoid bench by George Nakashima Ymer & Malta "When we began working with Benjamin Graindorge he was super young," says Anna Saldadaze of Paris gallery Ymer & Malta. "We like to work with young designers to help them develop their work and find their style." Ymer & Malta, showing for the first time in Basel, presents several exhibitions a year where gallery founders Valérie Maltaverne and Rémy Le Fur task a group of their designers to work with a particular material. Paired with local artisans and craftsmen, the resulting contemporary interpretation of a traditional craft—such as the FallenTree bench above—is fresh and compelling. CULTURED 81
